Note: This is a pre-order. Everything involved is subject to change a little!
Holy Moly, I can’t believe I’m about to say this: I have recently acquired a restored Presto 6D record lathe and for my first official project with the machine, I’m proud to announce a re-release of Joe Jack Talcum’s previously-cassette-only Over the Moon EP on clear 10” record!
Over the Moon was originally released on vintage-Mac colored cassettes as a split with my old moon-themed country folk comedy duo Gravey Train. In Over the Moon, Joe Jack perfects his blend of love ballads, jangle pop, and oddball rock into an album full of earworms that will keep you singing along. I might be a little biased, but it’s by far my favorite album of Joe Jack’s.
These records are embossed onto polycarbonate discs using a sapphire cone. What the heck’s that mean for you? Well, it means I’ve achieved my true final form as a creator and record label: I’m now making DIY, lo-fi records IN MY HOME STUDIO. These lathe records have their own unique sound: they’re roughly 90% the volume of pressed records, and feature more surface noise, pops, cracks, and hisses than most records. But if you’ve been listening to my music on cassette you will notice literally no difference - in fact, these records will sound BETTER. Joe Jack’s album has been professionally mastered specifically for this lathe by Chris Baldys, and if you don’t believe me, check out my Instagram - I’ve been documenting the progress I’m making cutting these records.
Over the Moon is due to release in December, but due to the nature of making these records, I’m going to ask you to be patient as I perfect them. All purchases come with a digital download of the album. Available as an add-on is a 7” of Joe Jack’s winter songs (as released on A Wintry Mix in 2020 and Winter at Home in 2022), and Joe’s also hard at work making lots of drawings to go along with anyone who’s interested in bundling, but you won’t know what you’re going to get until you get them! Also available is a zine of lyrics + Joe’s art.
I really, really can’t wait for you to hear these discs I’m making.
